[Perfect is the way it should be. It wouldn't do for Cat to think of their time together as anything less. She was perfect, wasn't she? What else could he possibly want but to linger in her company, to be her brother and nothing but?]

[She seems content to travel with him, to go where he goes, to accompany him on every errand that he might run, no matter how small. It's for his safety, she insists. They won't be separated again.]

[But this errand has taken them far into the city and away from their solitary abode. "Fox" drifts closer to him as they traverse the roads, her curiosity seemingly piqued by his dilemma.]

I might be able to help, brother, if you tell me what you're hoping to find here.

[He can only laugh at the littlest bit of consideration he gives it.]

Yeah, I'm thinking...not. Can't imagine a Volfe family vacation to the woods.

[Still, Fox had a good mind to brainstorm with and was sure to delight in the circumstance around it, whether it was to tease him or to congratulate his good fortune.]

Camping equipment! Something cozy, not like just a step up from surviving. That wouldn't make for a very romantic getaway trip for my Firefly, even just for a couple nights.

[A Volfe family camping vacation was unlikely to have ever occurred, as far as Cat is aware. "Fox" takes that as truth as well. Her family was never much for roughing it; or for bonding activities, even when she didn't dislike them enough to abandon her name and any pretense of being related.]

[Less welcome is the mention of a romantic getaway. One that she presumably wouldn't be invited to. Her pace slows as her focus on him intensifies with her displeasure.]

A couple of nights is quite a long time. Do you need to be away for so long?

[He tilts his head in her direction with a raised eyebrow, still grinning because his brain hasn't caught up enough to think he should be doing anything else instead. What a silly question!]

'So long'! Even if travel didn't demand it, a few days to celebrate six months seems a fair trade to me, sister.

A fair trade, brother? When I've only just arrived here?

[Minus a few days, but the point still stands. She doesn't meet his grin with anything nearly as teasing or jovial. Why should she? He's talking about running off without her, and for what? Someone he's known far less than her. Someone far less important.]

It's not like you to be taken in so easily. What did he promised you this time?

[There's a momentary spike of guilt at her words. It wasn't like he didn't want to spend more time with her, already dreading a repeat of what happened last time. It was different, though -- she had come with neither her weapon nor the gold bangle she'd had with her last time, just as destitute as his own arrival. The world was less dire, thankfully, so while the loss of her own blade was regrettable, it wasn't like they needed what they were most comfortable with to defend themselves at present. The pair of daggers split between them would do for now.

Not that it helps defend against Fox's following accusation, which he meets with a frown. It might be embarrassing to consider what had been 'promised', if it wasn't so unexpected in the first place. It didn't sound like her usual tease, so Cat crosses his arms and pivots to face her, squinting to put what little light he could make out again to use. It doesn't help.]

Oh please, you met him. Besides, even if he were capable of it, what would the point of that be? I'm hardly worth such a long con.

[She didn't meet him, but he doesn't know that it wasn't really her. She knows of him anyway because he does, and she wants nothing to do with him. He's not worth the time it would take from her or from him; time that should be spent with them and no one else. She doesn't like the attention that he holds over Lucio, attention that should belong to her.]

[What he can't see of her expression and the tight body language of her own crossed arms is made up for in her tone: All of the authority that the Volfe family bred in her before she flew from their nest, now on full display for him.]

You're not going away with him. I won't have it. You need to stay where I can see you.

[It's a shame that he's never been very mindful of authority or doing what he's told.

Cat's hand moves to his dagger and draws it at her words, certain now that the bells he hears around her are alarms and not the soft, guiding tinkling he's come to expect from his sister. Even at their reunion, fresh from tragedy, Fox hadn't been so intent on keeping close to him that she turned controlling. Everything they'd done -- together, apart -- had been a partnership. She wouldn't refuse him a relationship he held dear to him, regardless of misgivings. All the regrets they had weren't so strong that they would get in the way of the trust they put in each other, or the value they held for each other's happiness, after all.]
